The Parish Council would like to draw your attention to the proposal by Lancashire County Council to build a bypass from the M65 to Foulridge
There is a lengthy document on the Lancashire County Council website entitled “East Lancashire Highways and Transport Masterplan” which may be of interest. The routes are on the bottom right hand side of this page and the questionnaire is near the top.

Red and Pink routes are precluded.
Brown £ M34/ Blue £ M38/ Purple £ M25/ Green £M71.
The Brown Route is the preferred option. The brown route starts from a new junction on the M65 between junctions 13/14 approximately 500 meters west of the terminal roundabout, this avoids any conflict with the railway track bed at Vivary Way.This route then follows the railway track bed to a new junction on the A56. Most of this route is already protected for highway development.
The preferred option would cost 40M and terminate north of Foulridge and would be completed 2021/22
If the M65 to Foulridge road is constructed it would be essential to obtain the 25M required for the next stage to by-pass Kelbrook and Earby.” Quote from LLC documents
Thornton in Craven Parish Councils view is:
If a bypass is to be built then it should also include Kelbrook, Earby and Thornton rather than dumping all the traffic at Foulridge. Our concern is that potentially the heavy traffic that presently goes through Cowling/Crosshills could end up coming our way increasing what is already busy road.
We would urge you to read the documents and complete the questionnaire before the closing Date 6th December 2013.
There is a consultation/exhibition event on the proposed A56 bypass taking place at Colne Library on Wednesday 20 November between 11:00am – 7:00pm.
