Earby Local History Society
The Society was founded in January 1996 when six people met in
the New Road Community Centre in Earby to discuss whether a Local
History Society would be viable. There are now over 90 members
scattered world wide.
The aims of the Society are to raise awareness and facilitate
research into the heritage of Earby and District. The area covered
by the Society uses the boundaries of the Ancient Parish of Thornton-in-Craven
and therefore includes Earby, Thornton, Kelbrook , Hague and Harden.
Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of the month at New Road
Community Centre in Earby at 7-30PM where there is generally a
talk by a guest speaker followed by tea and biscuits and time
to chat.
Trips are organised some to places of historic interest and some
social outings to the theatre or dinner.
The Society publishes a sixteen page quarterly news letter, the
"Earby Chronicles" and also publishes occasional books
on topics of local history. For further information about Earby
