The walk starts at the top of Boothbridge Lane in the middle of the village of Thornton in Craven. Walk down the hill towards Old Station House and the cricket field

The lane turns to the right, with the cricket field on your left.

Continue along the narrow lane to Boothbridge Farm.

Follow the tarmac road between the farm house and buildings. It then becomes a dirt track which crosses a stone bridge over Earby Beck. Go across the bridge and over the stile at the side of the metal field gate following the track .

Within 20m of going over the stile you want to be heading diagonally to your right, with Earby Beck on your right and the tree lined old track/cutting to your left. Climb the hill to the next field boundary towards the field gate.

To the top side of the field gate you will see a stile below some old thorn trees go through this into the next field.

Head across the field towards the farm in the distance, Batty House.

You will come to 2 stiles close together in the next boundary fence. Climb them both and follow the fence line, keeping it to your right, towards the farm. You will walk around the side of Batty House and its out buildings to find a stile in the corner of the field at the side of a large tree.

Once you have climbed the stile turn right following the farm lane back towards Earby.

The lane forks, keep left towards Earby.

After 50m there is lane off to the right to Cowgarth House Farm take this.

As you approach Cowgarth House Farm you will see a path to your left, take this. It will lead you into Earby Cemetery.

Follow the tarmac path to the bottom of the graveyard and go out through the main gates.

Continue along the drive until it meets the main Earby road.

At the junction turn right and walk down the main street passing the shops. Follow the main road that runs between Wardle Storey's factories

The path cross's Earby Beck over a foot bridge. The Lead Mining Museum can be seen in front of you. Keep following the main road over the slight hill.

At the junction with the A56 turn right towards Thornton.

Within 20m of turning right on the A56 there is a whole in the fence onto the old railway line, take this and follow the old railway bed

Cross the new access road and back onto the old railway bed.

Within 60m of crossing the access road there is a stile on the left, take this.

The path runs diagonally to the right across the field.

Under the trees there is an old stone stile that will take you into the next field

Head diagonally to your right down the field to the next stile. Climb the stile and then head to the farm gate that you can see in front of you.

Once in the next field you will see a grass track heading up the field through the gateway in the dry stonewall back to the main road.

Follow the track back to main road.

Climb the stile and turn right.

Take the footpath back into Thornton and back to the top of Boothbridge Lane.
