To celebrate and commemorate the forthcoming Coronation of King Charles III, and to remember the late Queen Elizabeth II, it would be great if our wonderful Thornton in Craven Village Community could come together to create a piece of art, based around stitching and quilting using Liberty of London fabrics.
It cannot happen without your input and you are all warmly invited to be part of this. The plan is to create a quilt using 5 inch squares of fabric, embroidered and stitched by you; these will then be pieced into a quilt and displayed in the Village Hall.
We are aiming for 36 squares. When you sign up, you’ll be given a square of fabric; please decorate this (perhaps with a little appliqué if you wish, but mostly embroidery) with your own thoughts and designs. You could do this by hand or machine. Each square can be decorated by an individual or a group (I’m specifically thinking about our Village School and Care Home, but there may be others…). You could add an embroidered image of the late Queen or King Charles III, or something related to this point in history – the design and colours are entirely up to you – it’s all about celebration and commemoration! The one real rule is that your name /organisation is included in your design.
Would you like to take part? The fabric will be provided – you just provide your own thread, needles and creativity.
If you wish to be involved, please let me know by the end of March and then we can start to get things moving. All abilities are welcome, from novice to experienced stitchers, and all squares will be included.
All I ask is that your decorated squares are back with me by mid-May and the will aim is to complete the quilt by late spring/early summer. If any of you would like to help me with constructing the finished quilt, then please do let me know.
I look forward to working with lots of you (35 I hope) on this Community Coronation Project and if you have any questions, just ask.
Best wishes
