Fewston to Bolton Abbey

Fewston to Bolton Abbey (Abbey Amble Day 3) 11th July 2014

This section from Fewston to Bolton Abbey has it all from the gentle walk around Fewston and up towards Thruscoss Reservoir, to crossing the open moor of Hazlewood and finally the drop down to Bolton Abbey. The whole walk been 10.5 miles on mainly good paths or tracks with the only difficult bits been the short climb out of the Washburn valley onto the moor and the steepish decent into the Wharfe valley that gave Andrews knees hell!

On the moor there is an early example of a shooting house, built in 1758 for the Bolton Abbey Estate. It is a substantial stone-built structure and features separate rooms for the shooters and beaters. It takes its name from a large ‘rocking stone’ that is behind the building which we tied to rock without any success.
